So, She Rode Her Bike Down the California Coast

Last September, Nancy Travis, the actress famous for leading roles in the film “So I Married an Axe Murderer,” the Fox TV show “Last Man Standing” and the Golden Globe-winning Netflix series “The Kominsky Method,” rode her bicycle from San Francisco to Los Angeles in support of the Arthritis Foundation.

2018 California Coast Classic Bike Tour Raises Over $1 Million for the Arthritis Foundation

As riders of the 2018 California Coast Classic (CCC) Bike Tour made their way into camp on the sandy beachside grounds of Ventura, they were tired, sweaty yet full of energy and smiles. The sounds of cowbells and applause greeted each rider, and soon enough the announcement would come loud and clear from Shannon Marang Cox, CCC Director, and Erin Matthews, CCC Manager. Earlier that morning, the 2018 tour hit the milestone of all milestones – $1 million dollars raised!

This year, 180 participants began their journey from San Francisco’s Pier 39 on Saturday, September 22, along with over 50 volunteers and staff manning tour rest stops along the way. Riders cycled at their own pace and made their way down the coast of California’s famous Highway 1, stopping overnight in Santa Cruz, Monterey, Big Sur, Cambria, Oceano, Buellton, Ventura and eventually crossing the finish line in Los Angeles on Saturday, September 29.

Cycling the California Coast for A Cure!

On Saturday, September 22, 2018, the Arthritis Foundation’s 18th Annual California Coast Classic Bike Tour (CCC) began their journey from San Francisco’s Pier 39. About 180 riders embarked on an 8-day, fully supported tour down the coast of California’s famous Highway 1, with stops along the way in Santa Cruz, Monterey, Big Sur, Cambria, Oceano, Buellton, Ventura and crossing the finish line in Los Angeles.

Today, Tuesday, September 25, CCC riders will be cycling 72.8-miles and making their way from Big Sur to Cambria. They will ride through Big Sur’s pine-scented forests and see jaw-dropping coastal sights all the way past Hearst Castle, over the Twin Sisters, and into Cambria.

On Saturday, September 24, 2016, the Arthritis Foundation’s 16th Annual California Coast Classic Bike Tour will take off from Pier 39 on the beautiful bay of San Francisco. Over 250 riders will embark on an 8-day tour down the coast of California’s famous Highway 1, stopping along the way in Santa Cruz, Monterey, Big Sur, Cambria, Oceano, Buellton, Ventura and concluding on October 1 in Pacific Palisades of Los Angeles.

2015 California Coast Classic Bike Tour Makes Quite an Impression

On Oct. 3, approximately 300 riders across the nation completed the eight-day California Coast Classic (CCC) Bike Tour, spanning an impressive 525 miles along the California coastline. One of the Arthritis Foundation’s largest fundraising events nationwide, the ride brought in almost $1.45 million this year, helping to raise vital funds needed to champion the fight against arthritis as it drew the attention of the local and national media outlets.

“We worked incredibly hard to make sure that the California Coast Classic was a feature story not just in California, but throughout the country,” says Manuel Loya, Arthritis Foundation Pacific Region CEO. “Several of our bike tour participants were interviewed and followed by their local media, and we had several national and web publications that also made the tour their feature stories leading up to and during the ride.”

The 15th Annual California Coast Classic Bike Tour Takes Off This Saturday!

Arthritis Foundation Bike EventCelebrating its 15th consecutive year, the Arthritis Foundation’s California Coast Classic Bike Tour will kick off this Saturday, September 26, 2015 from the renowned Pier 39 at the Hard Rock Cafe in San Francisco. The event concludes on Saturday, October 3, 2015 in Los Angeles.

The “CCC”, as it is affectionately known, takes place over 8 days and covers 525 picturesque miles of the California coastline.  Approximately 300 riders from across the nation will take the “ride of a lifetime” down legendary Highway 1, making overnight stops along the way in Santa Cruz, Monterey, Big Sur, Cambria, Pismo Beach, Buellton, Ventura and finally concluding in Los Angeles.
