Let’s Get a Grip on Arthritis

So More People Can Do What They Love

If you have arthritis, you know full well what it’s like. The physical pain that makes everyday tasks difficult if not impossible. The emotional distress and feelings of isolation. The money it drains from your family budget.

But many of those who don’t have arthritis don’t have a clue. They don’t know that:

  • Arthritis is the world’s most prevalent disease. In the United States alone, 54 million adults – one in four – have doctor-diagnosed arthritis. And as many as 91 million Americans may truly be affected, according to a recent study.
  • Arthritis isn’t just an “elderly disease.” Two-thirds of people with arthritis are under the age of 65, including 300,000 children.
  • While it may not be as life-threatening as cancer or heart disease, arthritis accounts for 100 million doctor visits and nearly 7 million hospitalizations each year. It can damage vital organs and make other conditions worse.
  • Arthritis is to blame for the loss of 172 million workdays each year and costs the U.S. economy more than $300 billion annually in lost wages and medical expenses.

Perhaps worst of all, arthritis prevents people from doing the things they love. Hobbies they relish. Activities they enjoy. Even simple pleasures like spending time with family and friends, picking up their child or participating in special occasions. Arthritis steals quality of life.

That’s why the Arthritis Foundation has launched our “Let’s Get a Grip on Arthritis” cause campaign. We’re bringing greater attention to this complex group of more than 100 disease types. We’re growing the movement so more people realize how serious arthritis really is and support our mission to conquer it.

We’re also spreading the word that, though there’s no cure yet, there ARE effective treatments to reduce symptoms – and that lifestyle modifications and self-care can make a big difference. Besides funding research for better treatments and a cure, the Arthritis Foundation provides tools and resources that empower people with arthritis to pursue what they love and say Yes more than No to everyday obstacles.

We’re grateful to our inaugural partners of this campaign who are helping dispel misconceptions about arthritis. These partners also provide products and services to alleviate the disease’s effects.

As a pharmacy innovation company, CVS Health is Founding and Presenting Sponsor of Let’s Get a Grip on Arthritis. Playing an active role in each person’s unique health experience, with 9,800 CVS Pharmacy locations and a dedicated specialty pharmacy, CVS Health is working with the Arthritis Foundation to bring arthritis out of the shadows.

Cheribundi is the campaign’s Official Juice Partner. They’re the leading producer of tart cherry juice, proven to boost immunity, reduce soreness, speed recovery and improve sleep. By keeping good things in, Cheribundi allows customers to be healthier, mentally and physically.

PopSockets makes a stylish phone accessory that lets you do more with your phone while gripping it more comfortably and securely. As Supporting Partner, PopSockets donated 10 percent of their 2018 first quarter online net proceeds to the Foundation’s efforts to help people with arthritis live better every day.

Show your support of these generous partners by being a loyal customer. And please get behind the Arthritis Foundation’s life-changing work by donating directly to this urgent cause. If you have arthritis, we’d also love to hear your story. Tell us what you love to do and about your experience with arthritis.
