The Arthritis Foundation Announces Funding Opportunities for OA Researchers & Fellowship Programs

The Arthritis Foundation announces funding opportunities for two of our scientific pillar programs. These programs use patient and peer review committees for their decision-making process. Researchers and fellowship directors interested in applying for these awards should view the full application on proposalCENTRAL.

Advancing Osteoarthritis (OA) Treatments:
Clinical Trial Network Request for Proposals (RFP)

The first opportunity for funding is extended to researchers through the OA virtual Center of Excellence (OA vCOE). The center oversees our Clinical Trial Network, bringing together researchers interested in finding new treatments and cures for osteoarthritis, which is the most prevalent form of the disease. The OA vCOE is seeking proposals for research projects aimed at post-traumatic OA (PTOA), the type of OA that is caused by bone or joint injuries.

Competitive proposals from independent researchers and research institutions will be considered that aim to better understand how to prevent and treat PTOA. The focus of this RFP is on clinical research that ultimately, whether directly or indirectly, impacts patient care and identifies ways to meaningfully improve health-related outcomes for patients with PTOA. The deadline for applications is November 1, 2019.

Cultivating A New Generation of Rheumatologists:
Request for Applications (RFA)
The second funding opportunity is extended to clinical rheumatology training institutions. Fellowship directors from qualified institutionswith programs that are establishing new post-residency fellowship positions in clinical rheumatology adult and/or pediatric programs — are eligible to apply. This award will provide a grant offering up to three years of initial support, for a maximum of $150,000. Grants will be awarded to programs that meet the established criteria. The deadline for applications is December 16, 2019.

If you have questions about these programs or wish to be added to our mailing list for future funding opportunities, please contact AFScience@arthritis.org.
