President Obama Signs 21st Century Cures Act Into Law

We Need Your Help to Accelerate the Pace of Cures in America

21st Century Cures ActOur Arthritis Foundation advocates and ambassadors were instrumental in advancing the 21st Century Cures Act bill and now we’re calling on our advocates and ambassadors again to help get the bill over the finish line.  This landmark legislation would help accelerate the pace of cures in America.  The bill would look at the full process –from discovery of clues in basic science and the drug and device development process to medicine delivery to patients – and includes a critical $10 billion for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and $550 million for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to make all these innovations happen. The bill is moving to the floor of the House for a full vote in two weeks, and we need as much help as we can get in getting all 435 members of Congress to vote Yes!

21st Century Cures Act

Arthritis Foundation Continues the Dialog on Capitol Hill to Remove Barriers to Care!

One week ago, the House Energy and Commerce Committee unanimously approved the bipartisan 21st Century Cures Act 51-0. The legislation will “help to modernize and personalize health care, encourage greater innovation, support research, and streamline the system to deliver better, faster cures to more patients.”

The Arthritis Foundation and its volunteers have been actively involved in pushing this legislation forward, sending letters to key parties and making visits to the Hill in support of the initiative.

The most recent version of the 21st Century Cures legislation includes three new provisions that are important to the Arthritis Foundation and the arthritis community, covering topics ranging from easing restrictions on off-label uses of drugs to including age groupings in research studies, along with a provision that addresses the extension of exclusivity periods, which is important to ensure even those with rare diseases gain access to top-notch treatments and care.
